Where do I start?

Okay, so you got your stationery kit from Pen Pal Kids Co. Now what? Because your child is young, they will probably not have pen pals who are located far away. You can start nearby and even write letters to family members. Dani started to send letters back and forth with the kids in our neighborhood. The farthest friend is probably one who lives 45 mins away. Regardless of the distance, she still had a great time going through the process of sending snail mail. It has become a routine that she looks forward to! Due to the versatility of the card, it can be used for birthdays and other special occasions for those you love. The quality also allows for these cards to be saved for a long time.

Here are some ideas:

  1. Send mail to grandparents and include a sweet drawing.

  2. Start a mail chain with close friends in the neighborhood or school (ask questions!)

  3. Thank you cards for teachers (they will most likely love the handwriting lines).

  4. Birthday message for family/friends.

  5. Search for special programs you can write to (Nursing Home Card Project, Amy's Rays of Sunshine).

  6. Get creative with the artwork!

I hope this helps some of you get started writing with your kids. These kits are also great as holiday gifts or party bag items. I am personally not a fan of giving kids candy in their birthday party bags. This would be a perfect items to encourage friends to start writing to each other while practicing penmanship.

Have fun sending snail mail!
