We love the Elephant & Piggie Series. It is such a fun, quick and easy read. You know when your child asks you to read a book at night and you are too tired? Well, these books are perfect for the tired parent! I used to dread getting asked to read the Berenstein Bear books (such great books with awesome messages, but so long!) because it would take awhile to read just one. The Elephant & Piggie books were great because we started out reading it to her, and then she used it to practice reading on her own. Now she reads us the stories at night because her school is requiring self reading time.
The stories are written similar to a comic and it is very "silly and funny" according to my daughter. Mo Williems writes a lot of other books including the Pigeon series. All of his books are very similar in the way that it is written and not overwhelming when it comes to having your child start practicing how to read. The messages in the stories are very good conversation topics for your kids as well. If you try out one of the Elephant & Piggie books and love it, I recommend you buy the Biggie Series. These are multiple stories combined into one book. A lot cheaper than buying the books individually.
Fun facts:
1. Each Elephant & Piggie book has a pigeon hidden in the pictures at the beginning and end of the book. See if your child can spot it!
2. You can take turns reading the books by choosing a character (ex. You can be Piggie and your child is Elephant)
