I have been wanting my daughter to learn chess for awhile, but was not sure how to introduce the game. It seemed like there were so many rules, moves and parts to the game. I did not want to overwhelm her from the beginning and have her not like it in the end.
We recently got gifted a board game called Story Time Chess. This is suitable for kids 3+. This game uses stories to explain how each piece moves on the chess board. To adults the stories can be a bit cheesy, but it is such a great way for kids to understand the rules of the game. My daughter remembered the stories and figured out how to play chess within a day. I was very shocked at how quickly she learned through the board game. The set also comes with checkers pieces that can be played on the opposite side of the chess board.
By providing fun and easy stories, the game of chess can be taught to kids at an early age. I am a huge advocate for board games and the benefits that it brings. Not only does it cultivate strategic thinking, but it also provides a space to spend more quality time with family and friends.
This game would be a perfect gift for young kids this Christmas!
