With Christmas just around the corner, getting educational/fun gifts are always a struggle. If you're like me you probably are just getting started with gifts or aren't going to start for another week. For some reason, it has been a struggle this year to get things ready for the holidays. I have compiled a list of favorite gifts that my daughter and son have both enjoyed. Our family likes to always gift a toy with a book. We do that for birthdays as well. Because I do not have experince with kids older than 6, my gift list will stop there. All of the toys and books have been approved by my children and some are still at our home. I hope this helps those of you who are still struggling to find good items this year!
AGE 1 AND UNDER:
(Toy) Baby Banana Toothbrush: This is great option for babies who are just learning to grab and put things in their mouth. Safe to use and also a fun entertaining item for that age.
(Book) Soft Crinkle books for babies: A lot of books have come out with the crinkle version for babies. The sensory aspect of these books are perfect for 1 year olds.
AGES 1-2:
(Toy) Infantino Lights & Music Learning Fish: This toy was a random purchase that I made during a Target trip. It was in the sale section so I had to grab it. Little did I know that it would be a hit in our household. My husband tells people that it's one of his favorite toys. The songs are pleasant and both of my kids had a great time playing with it.
(Book) Indestructible Books: These books are truly indestructible. I have put it through the washing machine, the kids chewed it, it got wet....once it dried it was still in great condition. They offer many stories and educational topics. You will truly get your money's worth.
AGES 2-3:
(Toy) Color Matching Mosaic Pegboard: A great toy to teach color and to have children practice applying what they learned. The pictures are fun and very colorful. The pegs are large enough to grab easily as well.
(Book) Usborne Wind-Up Plane Book by Gillian Doherty: A fun book that not only explains details of airports and planes, but includes a wind up plane that travels along a path in the book.
Age 3-4:
(Toy) Count Your Chickens Board Game: By this age your kids are familiar with numbers or are starting to learn how to count. A great cooperative board game that for family game night. No competition or hard feelings.
(Book) Good Night Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann: This is a picture book with no words. I love books that do not have words because it is a great way to ask children what they think is happening. They can practice looking at a sequence of images to determine what is occuring in a story.
Age 4-5:
(Toy) Flexible Race Tracks: These tracks are fun because they can easily be made. A lot of the different flexible track kits on amazon come with cars that are battery powered and go along the track. We ended up buying 2 sets to increase the length of our tracks.
(Book) Elephant & Piggie Series by Mo Willems: I have mentioned in another post how awesome this series is. Fun for kids and also allow deeper conversations with hard topics. Good reading tool for kids who know phonics as well.
Age 5-6:
(Toy) Legos: This is the age where kids can follow directions of legos and build things themselves. There are so many options when it comes with Legos, so I'm sure you will find just the right one! Make sure to get an account with Lego so that points can accumulate or look out for sales at Target.
(Book) I Yam a Donkey! by Cece Bell: We were gifted this book earlier this year and my daughter loves it. It is funny and also teaches the rules of grammar. A fun book for older kids who would understand the grammar jokes. A silly read that is fun for parents as well.
I did not link the items because I noticed that things change on amazon and might not be available. A lot of these items can be found on amazon or Target.
